STORIS Spotlight: Tom Moroney

In this STORIS Spotlight this week is Tom Moroney, Senior Manager of Development. Tom has been a part of the STORIS team since the early 1990s. We asked him a few questions about his position at STORIS and found out more about his hobbies and favorite things.

How many years have you been at STORIS? : 22 and counting

What is the best part about working at STORIS? : Everything, especially my co-workers

What got you started in the field of development? : A math class in college called ‘machine language’.  It seemed like it had a good future.

What do you like most about development? : Being able to bring about positive change

Can you explain what your job consists of on a daily basis? : It is primarily problem solving along the lines of the word problems everyone hates in math class.  Since I also have a staff, the job also entails participating in mentorship to ensure everyone is on the same page and successful in meeting their personal goals.

If you didn’t have this job, what would you be? : Something creative – writing, film-making, music-making or something outdoors like beach volleyball instructor, surf/swim instructor, etc.

Apple or Microsoft? : I like both. The iPhone 6 and Windows 10 laptop are both part of my arsenal of technology.

What is your favorite food? : There are too many to pick just one – I love culinary diversity.

What is your favorite sports team? : All the locals torture me about equally.

If you could have anyone play you in the movie version of your life, who would you choose? : Starring Jeff Bridges in his prime, though I’m often told that I’m a dead ringer for Timothy Hutton.

If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you choose? : Jack Kerouac, author of “On the Road.”

Do you have any hobbies? : I’ve played music since I was 6 years old, guitar and keyboards.  I also have a passion for collectibles – records, comics, sports and non-sports trading cards – particularly pop-culture stuff from the 1960’s.  I have also played a lot of sports over the years.

If you had a super power, what would it be? : The ability to fly

What is your favorite holiday? : Definitely Thanksgiving

What is your favorite movie? : Tough question.  “Notorious” directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
